Obviously Google AdSense is displaying advertisements. I own a couple of other websites that have ads from Google on them but none of those sites have anything to do with politics so I rarely get political ads on them. On this site I expect to get political ads considering the content of the site. AdSense attempts to target ads to individual viewer because they want to show you ads that you might actually be interested in so that you are enticed to actually click on an advertisement. Obviously no algorithm will be perfect, but this is actually amusing to me.

On the Google AdSense Support portal there is this information about how ads are targeted.
Our technology uses such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, in order to determine what a webpage is about and precisely match Google ads to each page.

Ads have been enabled for approximately 36 hours this site, and as of this post I am am seeing a bunch of ads for Jason Crowe who is the congressman for Colorado's 6th District. I do not live in the 6th District, though the border is not that far away. The more interesting thing is that he is a Democrat and this site was specifically intended to remove people like him from office. This is not one or two ads, but so far one on almost every page refresh this morning. Ones to contact his office for help with immigration issues. One for his house.gov website. One to start receiving his official newsletter.

I have 27 page views this morning according to Analytics, and I have counted 24 ads related to Jason Crowe. So far these are the only political ads I have seen. No other elected officials from either side, and nothing from national organizations like the DNC or the RNC. All of the other ads so far have been what I would call "normal" generic ads. Computer parts, browser extensions, other products of a non-political nature.

This tells me two things. First, the Google algorithm is a bit confused by the name of this site. It's obviously political in nature which it picked up, but the sarcasm of the name escapes Google and the algorithm believes this to be a site a left leaning site and not a right leaning site. Considering the site is brand new and has practically 0 content to date I can understand that though it does greatly amuse me.

But secondly, and more importantly, the Democrats are seriously outspending the Republicans on web advertising. They almost have to be for this totally unknown brand new site to be showing 30-40% political ads for one candidate/official within the space of a couple of days. That is concerning. The conservatives have not made good use of websites and social media in my opinion. That is actually one of the reasons I started this site. The bigger footprint we have spread over many multiple sites and platforms the better off we will be as a movement. The Republican party absolutely has to be better at this.

My final thought on this is simple. If they want to pay me to oppose their message, why would I not let them? I have no intention of blocking those ads or any others like them, though that is possible. We are not talking piles of money at this point. After all as mentioned this site is totally brand new. Today I have earned 7 cents, not even enough to buy a piece of gum out of one of those nasty bubble gum machines. But then I took 7 cents from the Democrat party today and used it against them. How much did you take?
